Local Merchant Delivers
When No One Else Will

Detroit, MI, November 20, 2013 – At 28 years old with three young boys, Kelly King recently found herself displaced from her home.  With nowhere to go and no belongings her sister advised her to contact the Do Foundation, a local organization that assists the homeless with obtaining free items.  Armed with the paperwork, Kelly hit many charitable organizations in the city for over two weeks being turned away time after time with, “We’re not doing that anymore.”  Out of avenues to pursue, while Kelly was taking the bus to register her boys for school, she spotted signs for The Auction Block, said a quick prayer, and decided to try there next.  “I had all but given up, but knew I needed to keep trying.  That’s when I went to The Auction Block and met the owner, Obie Moore.”  She showed her paperwork to Obie and explained her situation.  “And that’s when he said, ‘Kelly, I think we can help you.’”  Breathing a sigh of relief, she showed him her “wish list.”  Nothing grand, just mattresses, a sofa, nightstands and a lamp.  Obie advised he’d have his staff pull the items together so that she could see them the following day.  Not only were all the items ready and just what she needed, upon talking to her about her children, Obie added two desks with chairs and two dressers to the list of items.  “It’s my way to help the community in a hands on way.  What I don’t understand is how anyone could simply turn her away?”  Since Kelly didn’t have the means to get the items to her new home, Obie came through again, pulled his staff off the job and delivered the items to her home the same day.  Kelly’s now happy, safe and says with her usual smile, “Now my house is a home.”
